VMware VCP Certification: Tips & Resources

This blog should help those who are interested in pursuing VCP certification. However it does not stop there. It goes beyond it and should be useful throughout working life.

Everybody’s journey would be different. One may be new to VMware and the other experienced. Everyone should get out something from this blog. I think a good place to start your journey on the road of VMware is by pursuing VCP certification and once achieved you can consider other advanced VMware certifications. Instructor led course gives you good foundation on vSphere administration.

http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www this official website tells you what is required to become a VCP and gives links for additional up to date resources including training providers, types of courses, exam blue print, FAQs, mock exam, study guides & books. You can search for training provider local to you, types of courses are VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.1] and VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V5.1].The latter one covers everything in the former course plus additional advanced topics.

You would need to setup a home lab while on the course which will play a key part of your preparation for the exam. This home lab will be useful to you beyond the exam as it will play the role of a data centre whereby you can practice and keep in touch. I found Building the Ultimate vSphere Lab a good one. It can be found at:

Read the course material, do the labs, be well familiar with the exam blue print and practice; it will help you prepare for the exam.
